Safety briefing

The dominant safety concern at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park isn't a weather hazard — it's the surrounding community's crime rate. Guilford County recorded a violent crime rate of 399.6 per 100,000 residents in 2023, which runs significantly above national averages and warrants real attention for visitors spending time in and around the Greensboro area. That said, 12 flash flood events in the county also make roadway flooding a genuine secondary risk, particularly during afternoon thunderstorm season.

Keep valuables completely out of sight in your vehicle — not in the trunk after you've arrived, but before you leave home — since parking areas at smaller historical parks often lack regular patrols. Check the National Weather Service forecast each morning, as flash floods here develop quickly with little warning; if skies darken during your visit, move to higher ground away from the park's low-lying wooded paths and return to your vehicle promptly.
